AFTER TILLER is a 2013 documentary that examines the fallout of the 2009 murder of Dr. George Tiller. Tiller gained notoriety as the medical director of Women’s Health Care Services in Wichita, Kansas, one of only three clinics in the nation providing controversial third-trimester abortions. Frequently the target of anti-abortion violence throughout his career, Tiller grew close with the few other late-term abortion providers who faced similar adversity. After’s Tiller’s death, the four physicians still providing third-trimester abortions in the United States are struggling to keep his practice afloat and protect themselves from a formidable anti-abortion movement. Filmmakers Martha Shane and Lana Wilson craft an astonishingly empathetic portrait of healthcare professionals catapulted into one of the nation’s most heated debates after choosing to provide a legal healthcare service that they believe is crucial to the lives of their patients.
