Four years after the release of Breathless, Godard once again reimagined the gangster film as a melancholic caper. Sami Frey, Claude Brausseur, and Anna Karina star as alienated youths who plot a low-stakes robbery. Widely considered one of Godard’s most accessible films, it contains two of the most iconic cinematic sequences: a café-set dance number and a race inside the Louvre. Godard has referred to the film as "Alice in Wonderland meets Franz Kafka.” Pauline Kael called it “Godard’s most delicately charming film."
