Film Information

Based on Kate DiCamillo's best-selling novel of the same name, Because of Winn-Dixie captured hearts with its tender sense of belonging. Fun fact, during production, Director Wayne Wang chose to use Picardy Shepherds as the signature dog breed because he thought they looked similar to the depiction of Winn-Dixie on the book cover and would appear familiar to its readers.

Opal (AnnaSophia Robb), a lonely 10-year-old girl, moves with her preacher father (Jeff Daniels) to a small town in Florida. Missing her old friends, Opal is ecstatic to find companionship with a rambunctious little dog she names Winn-Dixie, after the store where she found the pup. With Winn-Dixie's help, Opal befriends several colorful townsfolk (Cicely Tyson, Eva Marie Saint, Dave Matthews) and even begins mending her relationship with her father.

Reviews
"Fans of DiCamillo's book should be pleased with how Wang has faithfully preserved the novel's clear-eyed depiction of both pain and joy." –The Washington Post
