Special, one-time screening with director Dan Mirvish in person for a post-show Q&A!
On Thursday, August 1, 2013, at 7pm, Film Streams will present a one-time screening of BETWEEN US at the Ruth Sokolof Theater. Following the show will be a Q&A with the film’s Omaha-raised director, Dan Mirvish.
Mirvish is well known as both the founder of Slamdance Film Festival, now in its 20th year, and as writer and director of OMAHA (THE MOVIE), one of the first Omaha-based productions to feature an all-local cast and crew. The film is credited as an important early work in Nebraska’s growing cinema tradition and, as such, one that helped pave the way for filmmakers such as Alexander Payne and Nik Fackler.
The director’s latest feature, BETWEEN US, has strong area connections, as well. The film is partially filmed in an Omaha suburb and features aerial cinematography from Omaha-based producer Dana Altman. Significant financing for the film came from Nebraska investors, and even much of the Los Angeles crew were Nebraska natives.
In this darkly comedic drama, two couples reunite over two incendiary evenings where anything can happen. Grace (Julia Stiles) and Carlo (Taye Diggs) are a newly married New York couple who visit their old friends Sharyl (Melissa George) and Joel (David Harbour) in their huge Midwestern home. Despite their wealth, the hosts are in a bitterly destructive marriage. A few years later, the couples reunite in New York, only to find tables turned.
