On August 19, we will welcome the series’ director, Kasi Lemmons, welcome the most prolific Black woman theatrical film director of our time, Kasi Lemmons, for a discussion of her work and career. Film Streams will present Lemmons with the first ever Film Streams Wavemaker Award in honor of her contributions to the filmmaking industry. More details to come! In honor of Ms. Lemmons’ Wavemaker Award Celebration, we are screening a retrospective of her films from August 11-17.
ABOUT KASI LEMMONS
As an actor, director, writer, producer, librettist, mentor, and educator, Kasi Lemmons is one of the most powerful voices of our time. Amongst her many honors, Lemmons’s first feature Eve’s Bayou (1997) was selected for preservation in the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry and her fifth film Harriet (2019) was nominated for two Oscars. Her 2022 film, I Wanna Dance with Somebody was released with Sony pictures. Lemmons is an arts professor in the graduate film department at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
