Film Information
A year after the great Barbara Stanwyck burned up the screen as Phyllis Dietrichson in Double Indemnity, Stanwyck would once again prove her amazing versatility in Warner Bros.' progressive film that turned gender roles on their heads.
Stanwyck stars as a famous expert on marriage who is asked by her publisher to host a national hero for Christmas dinner at her famous Connecticut home. It should be simple, except she's single, can't cook and doesn't own a home. With lots of help, she may succeed... but the unforeseen happens when she falls in love with her guest in this classic romantic comedy.
Reviews
"Peter Godfrey paces the picture at a fast clip and the writing is laden with fun stuff." – The Hollywood Reporter
"A thoroughly wacky 1945 screwball comedy that also doubles as a fascinatingly subversive commentary on conventional gender roles. It’s a bit of a hidden gem in the Christmas canon." – The A.V. Club
