Distinto Amanecer was Bracho’s first fully personal film and remains one of the highest accomplishments of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. Set in a nocturnal Mexico City, photographed by Gabriel Figueroa in brooding shadows that anticipate American film noir, the film is both a pointed political metaphor and a pulse-pounding thriller, with a young Pedro Armendáriz as a unionist on the run and Andrea Palma as the nightclub singer who tries to help him escape a government assassin. In Spanish with English subtitles.
