Film Information

Following the global critical and commercial acclaim of his previous film The Wailing (2016), an immersive experience exploring demonic possession, Na Hong-Jin presents his much-anticipated fourth feature, the visionary sci-fi thriller Hope, an unparalleled cinematic thrill that keeps audiences riveted to the screen while leaving a powerful and lingering impact long after the credits roll.

In the remote South Korean village of Hope Harbor, police outpost chief Bum-seok (Hwang Jung-min) and officer Sung-ae (Hoyeon) are called to find a mysterious creature that has wreaked havoc on the village. In the nearby forest, a coterie of local hunters, including Sung-ki (Zo In-sung) set out to track the beast and find themselves hunted instead. But all is not as it seems, and perceptions can be misleading. What begins as ignorance plants the seed of disaster, escalating through human conflict into a tragedy of cosmic proportions.

Reviews
"It’s bold, provocative, and assured filmmaking that oscillates between moments of breathtaking cinematic prowess and satirical characterizations, whose coy rendering turns a mirror toward those who unconsciously lap up hollow action heroes when the far more intriguing story exists in plain sight." –Roger Ebert
