Juno

Dir. Jason Reitman USA 96 min PG-13

2007 Disney & 20th Century

A charming independent comedy in its own right, Juno went on to inspire over a decade of imitators, films that embraced their independent spirit in conjunction with the more serious subject matter. Earning first-time writer Diablo Cody (Jennifer's Body) the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, the film is funny, smart, and wholesome without being overly saccharine and delivers a coming of age story that rings true over 15 years later.

Juno (Elliot Page) is a whip-smart teen confronting an unplanned pregnancy by her classmate Bleeker (Michael Cera). With the help of her best friend, Juno finds her unborn child a "perfect" set of parents: an affluent suburban couple, Mark and Vanessa (Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner), longing to adopt.

Reviews
"With its smart dialogue by newcomer Diablo Cody and a miraculously effective and evocative lo-fi soundtrack, the film has the ephemeral charm of a great pop song." –The Guardian

"The film has no wrong scenes and no extra scenes, and flows like running water." –Roger Ebert
