When David Grant (Will Forte) agrees to drive his booze-addled father (Bruce Dern) to Nebraska to claim a dubious prize, the two encounter relatives and acquaintances to whom the older Grant owes money. Partially shot in the Norfolk, Nebraska, area in black and white, NEBRASKA fits Alexander Payne’s penchant for telling provincial stories with great artistry. Dern won the Best Actor prize at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival for his performance.
