Butcher's Stain

Meyer Levinson-Blount and Oron Caspi, 26 min., Israel

The first short film from 24-year-old New York native, now a decade-long resident of Israel, won a silver medal for narrative film at the competitive Student Academy Awards, and has since landed on the biggest awards stage. Samir, a Palestinian butcher working at an Israeli supermarket, is accused of tearing down the Israeli hostage posters in the break room. Samir sets out to prove his innocence in order to keep his job he desperately needs.

A Friend of Dorothy

Inspired by Knight’s own friendship with a lonely widow, the film is a heartfelt intergenerational story of loneliness and unexpected friendships. Dorothy (BAFTA winner Miriam Margolyes) is a lonely widow whose body is failing, but her mind remains as bright as ever. When 17-year-old JJ (Alistair Nwachukwu) accidentally kicks his football into her garden, he upends Dorothy’s daily routine of pills, prunes and crosswords, and an unlikely friendship blossoms.

Jane Austen's Period Drama

Julia Aks and Steve Pinder, 13 min., USA

This satire is period piece in every sense of the word. England, 1813. In the middle of a long-awaited marriage proposal, Miss Estrogenia Talbot gets her period. Her suitor, the dashing Mr. Dickley, mistakes the blood for an injury, and it soon becomes clear that his very expensive education has most certainly missed a spot.

The Singers

From filmmaker Sam Davis, The Singers is a genre-bending film adaptation of a 19th-century short story written by Ivan Turgenev, in which a lowly pub full of downtrodden men connect unexpectedly through an impromptu sing-off. With a cast comprised of first-time actors from the unlikeliest corners of TikTok and YouTube, the film is a celebration of diamonds in the rough and a testament to the power of vulnerability through art.

Two People Exchanging Saliva

Set in a society where kissing is outlawed and transactions are completed through slaps to the face, the film follows Angine, a discontented woman whose fascination with a playful salesgirl draws suspicion from a jealous colleague. The short film examines themes of repression, desire, and surveillance, using an absurdist premise to explore how intimacy functions in a controlled environment.
