Film Streams and Inclusive Communities present a Special Screening of THE RAPE OF EUROPA. The event anticipates Inclusive Communities’ Thursday, May 22, Humanitarian Dinner, where one of the producers of the film, Robert Edsel, will be guest speaker. The screening also coincides with Omaha Gives!, a 24-hour charitable giving challenge powered by the Omaha Community Foundation.
THE RAPE OF EUROPA is a mesmerizing documentary about the valiant efforts of Allied forces to undo the Nazi of plunder the artistic treasures of Europe during World War II. Guided by a revisionist philosophy that sought to elevate German stature in cultural history and minimize that of the groups they persecuted, Nazi soldiers stole and stockpiled some of the Continent’s greatest artistic achievements. As German troops lost ground, an unlikely band of art historians went into war zones to begin the process of restoring the works to their rightful owners.
Based on the same story, the hit narrative film THE MONUMENTS MEN was inspired by a book by Edsel. On Thursday, May 22, Edsel will address attendees at Inclusive Communities’ annual Humanitarian Dinner honoring area philanthropists. However, he will not be in attendance at this screening of THE RAPE OF EUROPA.
The collaborative screening of THE RAPE OF EUROPA also embodies the spirit of Omaha Gives!, a 24-hour giving holiday that will provide community members a platform to support their favorite organizations at www.omahagives24.org. Representatives from Film Streams and Inclusive Communities will be available before and after the screening to help attendees make Omaha Gives! contributions.
