Film Streams and Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, present a special screening of SHE’S BEAUTIFUL WHEN SHE’S ANGRY, followed by discussion with an intergenerational group of feminists.
SHE’S BEAUTIFUL WHEN SHE’S ANGRY resurrects the buried history of the outrageous, often brilliant women who founded the modern women’s movement from 1966 to 1971. SHE’S BEAUTIFUL takes us from the founding of NOW (National Organization for Women), with ladies in hats and gloves, to the emergence of more radical factions of women’s liberation; from intellectuals like Kate Millett to the street theatrics of WITCH (Women’s International Conspiracy from Hell!). It does not shy away from controversies over race, sexual preference and leadership that arose in the women’s movement, and brilliantly captures the spirit of the time — thrilling, scandalous, and often hilarious. The film was directed, produced, filmed, and edited by women.
Following this one-time showing will be a panel discussion with Peggy Adair, President of the League of Women Voters of Greater Omaha; Kristen Lilla, LCSW, Organizer of SlutWalk Omaha and Director of Vagina Monologues Omaha; and Maggie Wood, Director of Strategic Partnerships and Development for Nebraska at Planned Parenthood of the Heartland. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Sofia Jawed-Wessel, Assistant Professor at UNO’s College of Education.
