SON OF THE CONGO takes us into the world of Serge Ibaka, who escaped the violence of the Congo in 2008 to become an NBA superstar with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Following his success, he’s returned home with the goal to help rebuild a country and inspire a new generation. The film premiered at the 2015 SXSW Film Festival and is the second feature from director Adam Hootnick, a Harvard graduate whose debut documentary feature, UNSETTLED, won the Grand Jury prize for Best Documentary Feature at the Slamdance Film Festival. SON OF THE CONGO was produced by Bill Simmons and ESPN/Grantland, known for the award-winning “30 for 30” series.
Tickets for this special filmmaker screening at Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater are free and limited to two per per person.
