Film Information

An animated mockumentary that takes you behind the scenes of the high-octane world of competitive penguin surfing. Although the original film marketing said the film was a "true story," it was an extreme exaggeration. The truth lies in the experience of the surfers, with the animators conducting lots of research into surf culture as to create an authentic story instead of another parody of surfers.

The film profiles Cody Maverick, an up-and-coming surfer as he enters his first pro competition. He leaves his family in Antarctica to travel to Pen Gu Island for a Memorial Surf Off, believing that winning will bring him the admiration and respect he desires. But when he unexpectedly comes face to face with a washed up surfer, Cody begins to understand that the greatest champion isn't always the one who comes in first.

Reviews
"The originality of the documentary format coupled with the splendid CGI effects qualifies Surf's Up as not just another penguin movie." – Chicago Sun-Times
