While many major studios turned down the film, New Line Cinema, at that time a small independent production company, acquired the rights halfway through production for the film that would break the record for the highest-grossing independent film of all time.
After training as ninjas under Master Splinter in the sewers of New York, four heroic, pizza-loving turtles–Michelangelo, Raphael, Leonardo, and Donatello– take on a dangerous gang to save the city.
