About the Opera
One of the most popular operas ever written, Carmen tells the story of a hopeless soldier, Don José, who is seduced by Carmen, a fiery woman with an appetite for smuggling. Abandoning his childhood sweetheart and turning his back on his military career, the opera follows José in his pursuit of Carmen’s attention.

Director Carrie Cracknell debuts at the Met, bringing the story to the modern era and tackling pressing issues like gender violence and societal boundaries.
Aigul Akhmetshina stars in the lead role, supported by a stellar cast, including Piotr Beczała, Angel Blue, Kyle Ketelsen, and conductor Daniele Rustioni. Later in the season, Clémentine Margaine, Michael Fabiano, Ailyn Pérez, Ryan Speedo Green, and conductor Diego Matheuz take the stage.
