Daniel Catán’s opera, inspired by Gabriel García Márquez’s magical realism, follows a Brazilian diva’s quest. Returning to her homeland to perform and search for her lost lover in the Amazon’s depths, she encounters a captivating journey.

About the Creators and Cast

Soprano Ailyn Pérez stars as Florencia Grimaldi, with Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducting. Mary Zimmerman’s new production immerses the Met in the Amazon’s mystique. The ensemble includes Gabriella Reyes as Rosalba, Greer Grimsley as the captain, Mattia Olivieri as the enigmatic first mate, Mario Chang as Arcadio and Nancy Fabiola Herrera with Michael Chioldi as the bickering couple Paula and Álvaro.
