Set in 1876 in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, a secret group of Irish immigrant miners known as the Molly Maguires fights against the cruelty of the mining company and their anti-union efforts.
As the nation honors the incalculable contributions that organized labor has made to improve the lives of all Americans with the upcoming Labor Day holiday, the William Brennan Institute for Labor Studies at UNO welcomes the community to a film viewing that depicts the hardships faced by Irish immigrant workers in the late 19th century, not unlike the struggles faced by immigrant workers today. The film bookends a conference hosted by the Brennan Institute this past spring advocating for humane immigration reform.
