2016

Presented with Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, a panel discussion will follow the film.

TRAPPED is a feature-length documentary from filmmaker Dawn Porter (director of Independent Spirit Award-nominated GIDEON’S ARMY) following the clinic workers and lawyers on the front lines of a battle to keep abortion safe and legal for millions of American women. TRAPPED premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Award for Social Impact Filmmaking.

Since 2010, 288 TRAP (Targeted Regulations of Abortion Providers) laws have been passed by state legislatures. Clinics, in turn, have taken their fight to the courts. In a monumental ruling, the Supreme Court overturned controversial Texas TRAP legislation on Monday, June 29, ruling that its restrictions were designed to limit access to abortion, rather than promote health. The court’s decision will have implications on such laws throughout the country.

A panel discussion will complement the film. Panelists will be Meg Mikolajczyk, Policy Analyst, Lobbyist & Staff Attorney, Legal & Public Policy at Planned Parenthood of the Heartland; Tyler Richard, Communications Director for the ACLU of Nebraska; and Carol Bloch of the Courts Matter Coalition of Nebraska. The discussion will be moderated by Inclusive Communities Executive Director Maggie Wood.
