Dir. Daniel Roher USA 109 min R
2025 Black Bear Pictures
Daniel Roher, who won the 2022 Oscar for Best Documentary Feature with Navalny, makes his fiction feature directorial debut with the surprising and charming Tuner.
With his once-promising musical career over, a gifted young piano tuner (Leo Woodall) works across New York with his mentor Harry Horowitz (Dustin Hoffman). When his heightened sense of hearing draws the attention of criminals, who see his talents as useful for tuning Steinways as for opening safes, safecracking work threatens his budding romance and pulls him into increasingly dangerous territory.
Reviews
"'It’s not about hearing. It’s about feeling,' Harry explains, and the same goes for Daniel Roher’s pitch-perfect indie drama, which cleverly plays our emotions without resorting to cheap manipulation." – Variety
