WE ALWAYS LIE TO STRANGERS follows four families of performers living and working in Branson, Missouri, the so-called live music capital of the world. Though it has just 10,000 citizens, the town hosts 7.5 million visitors per year, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Its greatest draw are the sequined, rhinestone-bejeweled live shows that mine family-friendly Americana. Wilson, co-founder of the influential True/False Film Fest, Schnack, and Truesdell filmed their subjects over five years, capturing them through triumphs and hardships that both mirror the typical family of our time and provide a portrait of the unique culture of the Ozarks’ entertainment epicenter.
