Omaha, Nebraska—Film Streams is pleased to announce it has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to receive a Grants for Arts Projects award of $20,000. This grant will support collaborative screenings and special programs through the organization. This grant is one of 1,251 Grants for Arts Projects awards totaling nearly $28.8 million that were announced by the NEA as part of its first round of fiscal year 2023 grants.
“The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support arts projects in communities nationwide,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “Projects such as this one with Film Streams strengthen arts and cultural ecosystems, provide equitable opportunities for arts participation and practice, and contribute to the health of our communities and our economy.”
“Film Streams is honored to be recognized once again as a recipient of a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts,” said Executive Director, Deirdre Haj. “This support makes it possible for us to continue to impact our community through our work in education, collaboration, and the exhibition of cinema as an art form.”
Funding supports Film Streams’ education, collaboration, and exhibition efforts, which use the art of film to create dialogue around important issues impacting the Omaha community and
the larger film industry. As the organization aims to become more accessible, they plan to
take these conversations outside of their theaters and into the community to reach the Latino
population of South Omaha, an area isolated by a lack of public transit and a history of
redlining, and the area of North Omaha, serving a majority Black population of the city.
