Writer-director Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) has crafted a Little Women that draws on both the classic novel and the writings of Louisa May Alcott, and unfolds as the author’s alter ego, Jo March, reflects back and forth on her fictional life. In Gerwig’s take, the beloved story of the March sisters ― four young women each determined to live life on her own terms ― is both timeless and timely.
In the years after the Civil War, Jo March (Saoirse Ronan) lives in New York and makes her living as a writer, while her sister Amy (Florence Pugh) studies painting in Paris. Amy has a chance encounter with Theodore (Timothee Chalamet), a childhood crush who proposed to Jo but was ultimately rejected. Their oldest sibling, Meg (Emma Watson), is married to a schoolteacher, while shy sister Beth (Eliza Scanlen) develops a devastating illness that brings the family back together.

The Dundee closed for renovations in 2013, but as time passed, the future of the theater seemed uncertain. The building was sold to the Sherwood Foundation in 2015 who graciously gifted the property to Film Streams in early 2017 to renovate and return to the Omaha community. In December of 2017, the theater reopened with a brand new restaurant space as well as the 25-seat Linder microcinema that has doubled the programming opportunities of the theater. Little Women opened at the Dundee on 35mm on Dec 25, 2019 and played for 4 weeks before moving downtown to the Ruth.
