The Rocketeer, despite being based on an original character created in the 1980s, most earnestly embraces the trappings of its pulp and serial influences. In homage the Commando Cody serials of the 1950s, Joe Johnston directs an adventure film starring a new hero but dripping with the charm and wonder of an early 20th Century adventure.
