Supporting Women-Led Films in Hollywood and Beyond
For years, Film Streams has been actively tracking the number of films we show by women directors over our five program areas: new releases, repertory, community development, education, and special programs. SEE CHANGE was a natural extension and institutionalization of a commitment that had been become a large part of how we choose what is onscreen.
The director’s chair is just one data point, but it carries tremendous influence. It affects opportunities up and down the line of film production and it dictates whose stories and perspectives reach audiences. As an arthouse organization, Film Streams’ role is to model a film industry that recognizes, values, and responsibly speaks to the differences among us.
By being even more intentional in programming, and in championing the work of women filmmakers, we’re demonstrating how a more inclusive theatrical experience is, simply put, a greater theatrical experience.
