When Ingrid Bergman arrived in America from Sweden in 1939 she was already the biggest sensation to ever hit the screen in her native land. She quickly rose to fame in the U.S. too, captivating audiences with glamourous and nuanced portrayals of complex women. Just as suddenly, Bergman left Hollywood behind to act in some of the classics of Italian neorealism directed by her great love, Roberto Rossellini.
This eight-film celebration features CASABLANCA, the film that earned Bergman a place in the pantheon of silver screen greats, two thrillers Bergman made with Alfred Hitchcock (SPELLBOUND, co-starring Gregory Peck, and NOTORIOUS, with Cary Grant), and the film that brought her back to Sweden at the end of her career – director Ingmar Bergman’s AUTUMN SONATA. Selections will also include a week-long run of the new documentary INGRID BERGMAN — IN HER OWN WORDS, a career- and life-spanning look at a legend of world cinema.
