PRIDE WEEK
JULY 7 – 13, Ruth Sokolof Theater
Happy Pride! While no single film, or even series of films, could come close to encapsulating the multitude of LGBTQIA+ experiences in the world, we still wanted to celebrate queer film at Film Streams in the days leading up to Heartland Pride. And dammit, we tried to pick some cool ones! The films we’ve selected for this series are mostly rooted in the New Queer Cinema movement of the 90s, and a couple extra treats that we just really wanted to watch with you. There’s no rules here, OK? All films in this series are a celebration of indie AND queer filmmaking. So, grab as many friends as you can, or just yourself if you’re a “cooler-than-hell loner type”, and come watch queer film in a space designed for art and community. Let’s make it queer clear that queer film belongs on the big screen!
The Films:
PINK FLAMINGOS (dir. John Waters, 1972)
WATERMELON WOMAN (dir. Cheryl Dunye, 1996)
BOUND (dir. Lana Wachowski & Lilly Wachowski, 1996)
HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH - (HOME BY) MIDNIGHT SING-A-LONG
JULY 13 @ 9PM – Dundee Theater
Wrangle your sugar daddy, feather your bangs, and head to the Dundee for our Pride Week endcap. You’ll join Hedwig Robinson, a gender-queer punk-rock singer from East Berlin, as she tours the U.S. with her band and belts her life story. Don’t be shy – this is a sing-a-long so we expect participation! And don’t forget cash for our pre-screening drag performances. Did we mention you’ll be home by midnight?!
The Film:
HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH (dir. John Cameron Mitchell, 2001)
