Based on the experiences of basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain during his time playing for the University of Kansas, JAYHAWKERS is a narrative film about a group of unlikely allies who modernized college sports and brought greater equality to a community. A seven-foot-tall prodigy, Chamberlain was the first player competitively recruited out of high school. He selected Kansas, but on arrival in Lawrence, Chamberlain discovered it to be largely segregated. He also experienced prejudice on the court, where fans of rival teams would shower insults from the stands and threaten violence. His defiance in the face of bigotry catalyzed change for both the town and college athletics. The film’s climax is a dramatization of the historic 1957 championship game between Kansas and the University of North Carolina – often cited as the greatest college basketball game of all time.
