With the character of Paparazzo in his 1960 film La dolce vita, director Federico Fellini named the ubiquitous and ruthless photographers who document celebrities’ every move. Since then, paparazzi have become a primary way that audiences relate to celebrities and understand fame. In this Deep Dive, we’ll explore pivotal moments in this form of candid photography, and learn how paparazzi pics of Brigitte Bardot, Elizabeth Taylor, and Keanu Reeves, among others, changed the reproduction and dissemination of stardom at film festivals, in the press, and through social media.
