Deep Dive will distill the five-week Courses experience into one intensive class session. With a particular focus on stylistically innovative work, thematically “difficult” films, or challenging aesthetic concepts, Courses: Deep Dive aims to demystify filmmaking and empower audiences with the confidence to discuss the more technical aspects of storytelling.
Deep Dive’s inaugural class will be, “How to Watch Experimental Films.” Students will watch works by Germaine Dulac, Maya Deren, Chris Marker, Marie Menken, Trinh T. Minh-Ha, and Stan Brakhage, among others, and practice the tools of film analysis and criticism. The Course consists of an introductory lecture and a guided discussion. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided during class.
