Local Filmmakers Showcase: Pat Clark

Meet the 2012 Local Filmmakers: Part 4 of 9

PAT CLARK, Lexington, Nebraska
Director of  THE LANGUAGE OF WAR, 23 minutes

The Language of War

Director’s Statement:  The appeal of cinema to me lies in its ability to explore complex issues through infinite perspectives. I view cinema as an art form which exists to stimulate its audience, to provoke thought and ask them to consider alternative points of view. I believe that films exist to create a reaction in a person, and to transform audiences from spectators to participants. As a filmmaker, I am constantly attempting to create work that challenges the viewer. My work asks the audience to place themselves at the crossroads of imagery, interviews and recorded testimony as these elements unite to create a captivating visual, aural and spatial experience.

Director’s Bio:  Pat Clark is an award-winning artist and filmmaker from Lexington, Nebraska. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Master of Arts in Television, Film and New Media from San Diego State University. Currently, he is pursuing a Master of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Multimedia from San Diego State University. While his narrative and documentary work explores a wide range of subjects, his films often present focused views of larger events. His work has screened at festivals across the country and generates discussions wherever they are shown. His video installation work focuses on human memory and the manner in which we collect, recall and assign value to our memories. His video pieces rely heavily upon the use of archival material to create invented narratives which draw upon the past experiences of those who encounter the work.
